Weight, Color, Size and Markings.-Weight-Dogs, about forty to fifty-five pounds; bitches, thirty-five to fifty pounds.

Height-Dogs, about twenty-two to twenty-three inches; bitches, twenty-one to twenty-two inches.

Colors-Black, white and tan; black and white; blue belton; lemon and white; lemon belton; orange and white; orange belton; liver and white; liver belton; and solid white.

Markings-Dogs without heavy patches of color on the body but flecked all over preferred.

Symmetry.-The harmony of all the parts is to be considered. Symmetrical dogs will be slightly higher at the shoulders than at the hips. The judge is specially directed to look for balance and harmony or proportions and an appearance of breeding and quality, and to avoid massiveness and coarseness.

Movement and Carriage.-An easy, free and graceful carriage, suggesting rapidity and endurance.

A merry tail (whipping from side to side) and a high carriage of head. Stiltiness, clumsiness or a lumbering gait are objectionable.

OBJECTS.

To maintain and increase the interest of its members and the public in general in the breeding and raising of dogs; to influence and mould public opinion in respect of the care, treatment and welfare of dogs; and to protect and uphold the rights and interests of its members, and other dog owners.

The operation of the Association shall extend throughout the United States of America.

The Association offers The Doherty Medals, presented by Mr. Henry L. Doherty, at all A. K. C. Shows throughout the United States to members only for best toy dog and for best dog other than a toy.

A number of D. L. P. A. members have agreed to specify in all specials they offer hereafter, in addition to other conditions, that to compete for same the exhibitor must be a member of the D. L. P. A. Will you, also, please do the same. In making entries for shows state you are a member of the Association. There will be many specials offered from now on. There are now ten specials offered at all A. K. C. Shows, the latest being the Crossman Trophy, offered by the well-known actress and great dog lover, Miss Henrietta Crossman.

If you are interested in establishing a branch of the D. L. P. A. in your city or desire to take an active interest by acting as the Local Representative or Superintendent in your section, please communicate with the President.

THE IRISH SETTER STANDARD.

AS APPROVED BY THE IRISH SETTER CLUB.

Head. Should be long and lean. The skull oval (from ear to ear), having plenty of brain room, and with well-defined occipital protuberance. Brows raised, showing stop. The muzzle moderately deep and fairly square at end. From the stop to the point of the nose should be long, the nostrils wide and the jaws of nearly equal length, flews not to be pendulous. The color of the nose dark mahogany or dark chocolate and that of the eye (which ought not to be too large) rich hazel or brown. The ears to be of moderate size, fine in texture, set on low, well back and hanging in a neat fold close to the head.

Neck.-Should be moderately long, very muscular but not too thick, slightly arched, free from all tendency to throatiness.

Body.-Should be proportionately long, shoulders fine at the points, deep and sloping well back. The chest deep, rather narrow in front. The ribs well sprung, leaving plenty of heart room. The loins muscular and slightly arched. The hindquarters wide and powerful.

Legs and Feet.-The hind legs from tip to hock should be long and muscular, from hock to heel short and strong. The stifle and hock joints well bent, and not inclined either in or out. The forelegs should be strong and sinewy, having plenty of bone, with elbows free, well let down, and, like the hock, not inclined either in or out. The feet rather small, very firm, toes strong, close together and arched.

Tail. Should be of moderate length, set on rather low, strong at root and tapering to a fine point; to be carried in a slight scimitar-like curve or straight, nearly level with the back.

Coat. On the head, front of legs and tips of ears should be short and fine, but on all other parts of the body it should be of moderate length, flat, and as free as possible from curl or wave.

Feathering.-The feather on the upper portion of the ears should be long and silky, on the back of fore and hind legs long and fine, a fair amount of hair on belly, forming a nice fringe, which may extend on chest and throat. Feet to be well feathered between the toes. Tail to have a nice fringe of moderately long hair, decreasing in length as it approaches the point.
