murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. (Exod. xx. 14.) Deut. v. 18. Neither shalt thou commit adultery. Lev. xx. 10. And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death. Deut. xxii. 22. If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman, and the woman; so shalt thou put away evil from Israel. 1 Pet. ii. 11. Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul. 1 Thess. iv. 3-5. For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication; That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God. Matt. v. 28. But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her, hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. Matt. xv. 19, 20. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false-witness, blasphemies: These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man. I Cor. iii. 16, 17. Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple

ye are.

SECTION II.

Ephes. v. 22-25. 28, 29. 31-33. Wives, submit your selves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the Saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives

be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies: he that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless, let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband. 2 Cor. vi. 14, 15. Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers`; for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 1 Cor. vii. 2-5. 8-14. 27, 28. 32-34. 39. Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence and likewise also the wife unto the husband. The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. Defraud you not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency. I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I. But if they cannot contain, let them marry for it is better to marry than to burn. And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: But if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife. But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away. And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if

:

he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy. Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.

Art

But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trou. ble in the flesh; but I spare you. But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord. But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife. There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband. The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord. Matt. xix. 8, 9. He saith unto them, Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shull marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery. Matt. v. 32. But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced, committeth adultery. Rom. vii. 2. For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband, so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of the husband. Deut. vii. 3. Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son. 1 Pet. iii. 7. Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the

weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. Gal. v. 24. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 1 John iii. 3. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. Phil. iv. 8. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Psal. xxvi. 6. I will wash mine hands in innocency: so will I compass thine altar, O Lord. Matt. v. 8. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Rom. ii. 29. But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly, and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God. Col. iv. 6. Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how ye ought to answer every man. 1 Pet. iii. 2. While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. 1 Pet. i. 15. But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation. `1 Tim. iv. 12. Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Prov. v. 3-5. 8-11. For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honey-comb, and her mouth is smoother than oil: But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword. Her feet go down to death, her steps take hold on hell. Remove thy

way far from her, and come not nigh the

door of her

house; Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel: Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth, and thy labours be in the house of a stranger; And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed. (1 Thess. iv. 3-5. See section 1.) Rom. xiii. 13. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. 1 Thess. v. 23. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly: and I pray God your whole

spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Job xxxi. 1. I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid? Tit. ii. 3. The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things. Psal. cxix. 37. Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thoù me in the way. 1 Cor. ix. 27. But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection; lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a cast-away. Rom. vi. 13. 19. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin : but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. I speak after the manner of men, because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity, unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. Rom. viii. 13. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. Col. iii. 5. Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

(Gal. v. 19. See section 1.) Mark x. 11, 12. 19. And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery. Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother. Rom. ii. 22. Thou that sayest, A man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit
