SECTION I.

Matt. xxii. 37, 38. Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. Mark xii. 29, 30. And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; the Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength. This is the first commandment. 1 John v. 3. For this is the love of God that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. 2 John 6. And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That (as ye have heard from the beginning) ye should walk in it. John xiv. 21. He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father; and I will love him, and will manifest myself unto him. 1 John iv. 21. And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also. 1 Chron. xxix. 11. Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all. Job xxxiii. 12. Behold, in this thou art just; I will answer thee that God is greater than man. Matt. xxii. 39, 40. And the second is like unto it, Thon shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two com

mandments hang all the law and the prophets. Mark xii. 31-33. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt

John xv. 12. 17. This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. These things I command you, that ye love one another. Gal. v. 14. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this, Thou shall love thy neighbour as thyself. Luke x. 25-29. 37. And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? He said unto him, What is written in the law? How readest thou? And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right; this do, and thou shalt live. But he, willing to justify himself said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour? And he said, He that shewed mercy upon him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise. Rom. xiii. 8-10. Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

14. For thou shalt worship no other God: for the Lord whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. Matt. xv. 7-9. Ye hypocrites! well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. Deut. viii. 19. And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the Lord thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day, that ye shall surely perish. 1 Sam. xii. 15. SECTION II.

Exod. xx. 1, 2. And God spake all these words, saying, I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Deut. v. 2-6. 15. The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb. The Lord made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day. The Lord talked with you face to face in the mount, out of the midst of the fire, (I stood between the Lord and you at that time; to shew you the word of the Lord; for ye were afraid by reason of the fire; and went not up into the mount ;) saying, I am the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the Lord thy God brought thee out thence, through a mighty hand, and by a stretched-out arm: therefore the Lord thy God commanded thee to keep the Sabbath day. Deut. vi. 1. 4, 5. 12—14. 20-25. Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the Lord your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither

ye go to possess it. Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God is one Lord: and thou shalt love the Lord thy God, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. Then beware lest thou forget the Lord, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name. Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you. And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the sta tutes, and the judgments, which the Lord our God hath commanded you? Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharoah's bondmen in Egypt; and the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand: and the Lord shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Phareah, and upon all his household, before our eyes: and he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he sware unto our fathers. And the Lord commanded us to keep all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day. And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the Lord our God, as he hath commanded us. Mal. iii. 1. Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the Messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in : behold he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts. Heb. viii. 6. 13. But now he hath obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the Mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old, is ready to vanish away. Psal. lxxxix. 3. 28. I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant. My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him. Ephes. i. 3, 4. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath

blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ according as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy, and without blame before him in love. Gal. iii. 13-15. 24-29. Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Brethren, I speak after the manner of men, Though it be but a man's covenant; yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto. Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ, have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. Gal. vi. 15, 16. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. And, as many as walk according to this rule, peace be upon them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God. 1 Cor. x. 1-4. Moreover, brethren, 1 would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; and were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; and did all eat the same spiritual meat, and did all drink the same spiritual drink; for they drank of that spiritual rock that followed them: and that rock was Christ. Gen. xvii. 7. And I will establish my covenant between me and thee, and thy seed after thee, in their generations, for an evelasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee. Rom. iii. 29. Is he the God of the Jews only? Is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of
