GOD, Who pourest the gifts of Thy mercy upon us: grant us, we beseech Thee, so to use these temporal aids, that as we hasten to return to our own native country, they may be to us comforts in our journey, and not allurements to stay. Through. LESSON. Deuteronomyxvi. 13.

MOSES said

unto the

children of Israel: Thou shalt observe the feast of tabernacles seven days, after that thou hast gathered in thy corn and thy wine: and thou shalt rejoice in thy feast, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy manservant, and thy maidservant, and the Levite, the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are within thy gates. Seven days shalt thou keep a solemn feast unto the Lord thy God in the place which the Lord shall choose: because the Lord thy God shall bless thee in all thine increase, and in all the works of thine hands, therefore thou shalt surely rejoice.

GOSPEL. St. Luke xii. 15. ESUS said unto His disciples: Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in

the abundance of the things which he possesseth. And He spake a parable unto them, saying: The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: and thought within himself, saying: What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said: This will I do; I will pull down my barns, and will build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him: Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee; then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

BRETHREN, know ye

not that your bodies are the members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot ? God forbid. What? Know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith He, shall be one flesh. But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy

GOSPEL. St. Matthew xix. 3. THE Pharisees came unto

Jesus, tempting Him, and saying unto Him: Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? And He answered and said unto them: Have ye not read, that He which made them at the beginning made them male and female, and said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. The Creed.

house, went up to offer unto the Lord the yearly sacrifice, and his vow. But Hannah

went not up; for she said unto her husband: I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the Lord, and there abide for ever. And Elkanah her husband said unto her : Do what seemeth thee good; tarry until thou have weaned him; only the Lord establish His word. So the woman abode,

and gave her son suck until

she weaned him. And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the Lord in Shiloh: and the child was young. And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to Eli. And she said: Oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the Lord. For this child I prayed; and the Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of Him therefore also I have lent him to the Lord; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the Lord. And he worshipped the Lord there. And Hannah prayed, and said: My heart rejoiceth in the Lord, mine horn is exalted in the Lord; because I rejoice in Thy salvation.

days of her purification according to the law of Moses accomplished, they brought Him to Jerusalem, to present Him to the Lord; as it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord; and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons. And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ. And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him after the custom of the law, then took he Him up in his arms, and blessed
