DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE.

WHEN, in the course of human events, it bemes necessary for one people to dissolve the litical bands which have connected them with other, and to assume among the powers of the rth the separate and equal station to which the vs of nature and of nature's God entitle them, decent respect to the opinions of mankind reires that they should declare the causes which pel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident-that men are created equal; that they are endowed their Creator with certain inalienable rights; at among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit happiness. That to secure these rights, govments are instituted among men, deriving their st powers from the consent of the governed; at whenever any form of government becomes structive of these ends, it is the right of the ople to alter or abolish it, and to institute a w government, laying its foundation on such inciples, and organizing its powers in such m, as to them shall seem most likely to effect eir safety and happiness. Prudence indeed will etate, that governments long established should t be changed for light and transient causes, d accordingly, all experience hath shown, that
