THURSDAY, JUNE 10, 1875.

Senate met according to adjournment.

The journal was read and approved.

The following message was received from the House of Representatives by their clerk:

Mr. President:

The House of Representatives have passed a bill with the following title, in the passage of which they ask the concurrence of the Honorable Senate:

"An act to extend the charter of the Ashuelot Savings Bank."

The following entitled bill, sent up from the House of Representatives, was read a first and second time, and referred to the Committee on Banks:

"An act to extend the charter of the Ashuelot Savings Bank." The following message was received from the House of Representatives by their clerk:

Mr. President:

The House of Representatives will meet the Honorable Senate in convention, for the purpose of proceeding in the election of secretary of state, state treasurer, state printer, and commissarygeneral, on Thursday, June 10th, at 3 o'clock in the afternoon.

And on motion of Mr. Cobleigh of No. 12, it was laid on the table.

Mr. Cobleigh of No. 12 moved the adoption of the following resolution:

Resolved, That the House of Representatives be notified that the Senate will meet them in convention, for the purpose of

proceeding in the election of secretary of state, state treasurer, state printer, and commissary-general, on Tuesday next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon.

Mr. Whitney of No. 9 moved to lay the same on the table, and on the question being stated, it was decided in the negative.

The question recurring, Shall the resolution be adopted ?—it was decided in the affirmative, and the resolution was adopted.

Messrs. Proctor of No. 4 and Martin of No. 3 were, at their own request, severally excused from serving upon the committees on roads, bridges, and canals, and on towns, and Mr. Martin of No. 3 was appointed on the Committee on Roads, Bridges, and Canals, and Mr. Proctor of No. 4 was appointed on the Committee on Towns.

The following message was received from His Excellency the Governor by the secretary of state:

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE.

EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT.

CONCORD, June 10, 1875.

To the Honorable Senate:

I have the honor to transmit herewith the memorial of the National Board of Trade.

JAMES A. WESTON, Governor.

The memorial having been read was laid on the table, on motion of Mr. Weeks of No. 11.

Mr. Weeks of No. 11 gave notice that he would to-morrow, or on some subsequent day, ask leave to introduce a bill, entitled "An act to promote the interests of education in this state."

Mr. Smith of No. 5 gave notice that on to-morrow, or some subsequent day, he would ask leave to introduce a bill, entitled "An act in amendment of chapter one hundred and five of the General Statutes, relating to wild animals, dogs, and sheep."

On motion of Mr. Whitney of No. 9, the Senate took a recess till five minutes to twelve o'clock.

On reässembling, the following message was received from. the House of Representatives by their clerk:

Mr. President:

The House of Representatives are now ready to meet the Honorable Senate in convention, for the purpose of proceeding in the elections, agreeably to the provisions of the constitution.

And the Senate met the House in convention.

On returning to the senate chamber, on motion of Mr. Stowell of No. 10 the Senate adjourned.

AFTERNOON.

On motion of Mr. Weeks of No. 11, the memorial of the National Board of Trade was taken from the table and considered.

On motion of the same senator, it was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary.

Mr. Proctor of No. 4 gave notice that on to-morrow, or some subsequent day, he would ask leave to introduce a bill, entitled "An act to simplify and facilitate the computation of interest.' On motion of Mr. Carr of No. 8, the Senate adjourned.

FRIDAY, JUNE 11, 1875.

Senate met according to adjournment.

The reading of the journal having been commenced, on motion of Mr. Smith of No. 5, the rules were so far suspended that its further reading was dispensed with.

On motion of Mr. Smith of No. 5, the following resolution was adopted:

Resolved, That a committee of three be appointed to take into consideration the message of His Excellency the Governor, and report what disposition shall be made of the several subjects contained therein.

And the president appointed Mr. Smith of No. 5, Mr. Priest of No. 2, and Mr. Holman of No. 7, as such committee.

The following communication was read by the chair:

To the Honorable Senate of the State of New Hampshire: Business of the utmost importance compels me to resign the office of sergeant-at-arms of said body, and to ask your immediate acceptance of the same.

June 11, 1875.

And the resignation was accepted.

Mr. Weeks of No. 11, agreeably to previous notice, on leave, introduced the following bill, entitled "An act to promote the interests of education in this state."

Which was read a first and second time, and referred to the Committee on Education.

The following message was received from the House of Representatives by their clerk:

Mr. President:

The House of Representatives have appointed the following named gentlemen as members of the joint standing committees on the part of the House:

State House and State House Yard-Durgin of Concord, Gilchrist of Franklin, and Little of Webster.

On Engrossed Bills-Wood of Acworth and Brown of Concord.

On State Library-Barton of Newport, Hatch of Portsmouth, and Sanborn of Gilmanton.

The following message was received from the House of Representatives by their clerk:

Mr. President:

The House of Representatives have passed the following entitled bill, in the passage of which they ask the concurrence of the Senate:

"An act to enable school district No. 3 in Somersworth to fund its debt."

The following entitled bill, sent up by the House of Representatives, was read a first and second time, and referred to the Committee on the Judiciary:

"An act to enable school district No. 3 in Somersworth to fund its debt."

Mr. Hall of No. 1, for the Committee on Banks, to whom was referred the bill entitled "An act to extend the charter of the Ashuelot Savings Bank," reported the same with the following amendment:

Strike out in section 5, in the third line of the act to which this is an amendment, the words "five thousand," and insert instead thereof the words "twenty-five thousand."

Which amendment was adopted, and the bill ordered to a third reading this afternoon at three o'clock.

On motion of Mr. Hall of No. 1, the Senate adjourned to Monday next, at four o'clock in the afternoon.

Senate met according to adjournment.
