In the list of public and private vessels taken from the enemy during the war, we have not given the whole pumber of men and guns, on board of a large proportion of the merchant vessels, as it was never officially stated. In every instance of this kind, where we could not obtain correct information, we have left the number blank. We are sorry to say it is wholly out of our power to accompany the list of prizes with a correct list of the vessels we have lost; the enemy never having made a public statement of their prizes, we could not collect them from

any

authentic source.
