Sectio IV. Of the Delegates of Local Examinations.

§ 3. Of the Examination of Women.

1. An Examination shall be held once at least in every year by which the attainments of women may be tested. The Examination shall be called the Oxford University Examination for Women.

2. For the purposes of this Examination the Delegates shall have the same powers and shall be charged with the same duties as those which have been assigned to them in the preceding sub-section of this Statute with respect to the examination of persons under the age of 18.

3. For the purposes of this sub-section, the Delegates shall make arrangements for using the Honour Examinations held under the provisions of Statute V. (VI.) in the First Public Examination, and in the Honour Schools of Mathematics, Modern History, and Natural Science, and any arrangements so made shall be carried out by the Examiners appointed under that Statute. Whenever the Delegates use any such Honour Examination they shall make arrangements under such conditions as they shall think fit, by which Candidates may offer some part or section of the subjects of examination, without being required to offer the whole.

At the end of each Examination in which Candidates have been examined under this clause, the names of the Candidates who appear to be of sufficient merit shall be placed in a Class List, the names in each Class being arranged alphabetically, and the standard for each Class being the same as in the Class List of members of the University, and a Certificate shall be awarded to each Candidate whose name has been placed in the Class List stating the Class in which her name has been placed. A Certificate shall also be awarded to any Candidate who has shown merit in any part or section of such Examination, in such form as may be determined by the Delegates.

The Delegates shall pay such sums to the Public Examiners and Moderators for services rendered under this clause as the Vice-Chancellor and Proctors shall from time to time determine.

4. The Delegates shall also make arrangements for using for the purposes of this sub-section the first examination for the degree of Bachelor in Music, and the Examiners in Music shall carry out such arrangements. No Candidate shall be allowed to offer herself for examination under this clause who has not passed some Examination which is in the judgment of the Delegates equivalent to Responsions. The Delegates shall from time to time publish a list of such Examinations.

The Delegates shall pay such sums to the Examiners in Music for services rendered under this clause as the ViceChancellor and Proctors shall from time to time determine.

5. The remuneration of the Examiners and all other expenses incurred by the Delegates under this and the preceding sub-sections shall be covered by fees charged upon the Candidates.

REGULATIONS FOR THE YEAR 1885.

The Examinations will consist of a First Examination and a Second Examination. These cannot be passed by any Candidate in the same calendar year. No Candidate will be admitted to the Second Examination unless she has passed the First, or some other Examination accepted by the Delegates as equivalent.

At present the Delegates accept as equivalent the Matriculation Examination of the University of London: the Cambridge Higher Local Examinations, if the Candidate has passed in Group C and in two languages of Group B: the Oxford Senior Local Examinations, if the Candidate has passed in the same Examination in Section D, and with the special recommendation of the Examiners in two languages of Section C: The Examination for Certificates of the Oxford and Cambridge Schools Examination Board, if the Candidate has passed in the same Examination in two subjects of Group I and in' Elementary Mathematics.

The Examinations in the year 1885 will commence on the following days :The First Examination on (1) the 8th of June,

(2) the 15th of December.

The Second Examination (Pass) on the 8th of June.

The Second Examination (Honours)

(1) In Latin and Greek on May 28.
(2) In Mathematics on June 18.

(3) In Modern History on some day to be hereafter fixed, not earlier

than June 8.

(4) In Natural Science (Preliminary) on May 28 and Nov. 26.

(5) In Natural Science (Final) on some day to be hereafter fixed, not later than seven days after the termination of the Preliminary Examination which begins on May 28.

(6) In all other subjects on June 8.

Candidates for the First Examination in December, and for the Second Examination (Honours) in Latin and Greek, Mathematics, Modern History, or Natural Science will be examined in Oxford only. Candidates for the other Examinations may be examined, with consent of the Local Secretary and upon payment of the Local Fee (if any), at any of the places appointed for the Local Examination of Girls, except London. Printed forms of entry for the Examinations to be held in May and June may be obtained from G. E. BAKER, Esq., Clarendon Building, Oxford, on and after February 1st, and must be returned to him with the Fees, those for the Second Examination on or before March 1st, and those for the First Examination on or before April 11th. Forms for the Examinations to be held in December, may be obtained in the same way on and after October 1st, and must be returned with the Fees on or before November 1st.

** There will be a First Examination held under the Regulations of 1884 beginning upon the 9th of December 1884, and a Second Examination (Honours) in Natural Science (Preliminary) beginning upon the 20th of November, 1884. These Examinations will be held in Oxford only. Forms of entry may be obtained from G. E. BAKER, Esq., Clarendon Building, Oxford, on and after October Ist, and must be returned with the Fees on or before November 1st 1884.
