A Collection of Hymns, for the Use of the Methodist Episcopal Church

Forside
G. Lane & C.B. Tippett, 1848 - 616 sider
The Hymnbook heretofore in use among us has been thought by many to be defective, partly on account of the mutilated state of many of the hymns, and partly because of its being divided into two books. To remedy these inconveniences, measures have been adopted to prepare a revised edition of our Hymnbook, such a one as should exclude the defects and retain the excellences of the one heretofore published. This revised edition we now present to you. The greater part of the hymns contained in the former selection are retained in this, and several from Wesley's and Coke's collections, not before published in this country, are added. - To the members and friends of the Methodist Episcopal Church / Elijah Hedding, Beverly Waugh, Thomas A. Morris, Leonidas L. Hamline, Edmund S. Janes.

Side 472 - A thousand ages in Thy sight Are like an evening gone ; Short as the watch that ends the night Before the rising sun.
Side 261 - Finish then thy new creation ; Pure and spotless let us be ; Let us see thy great salvation, Perfectly restored in thee : Changed from glory into glory, Till in heaven we take our place,— Till we cast our crowns before thee, Lost in wonder, love, and praise.
Side 225 - I'LL praise my Maker while I've breath, And when my voice is lost in death, Praise shall employ my nobler powers ; My days of praise shall ne'er be past, While life, and thought, and being last, Or immortality endures.
Side 215 - Come, Thou Fount of every blessing, Tune my heart to sing Thy grace; Streams of mercy, never ceasing, Call for songs of loudest praise.
Side 40 - Other refuge have I none; Hangs my helpless soul on Thee; Leave, ah, leave me not alone, Still support and comfort me. All my trust on Thee is stayed, All my help from Thee I bring; Cover my defenceless head With the shadow of Thy wing.
Side 77 - My prayer hath power with God ; the grace Unspeakable I now receive, Through faith I see thee face to face, I see thee face to face, and live : In vain I have not wept, and strove, Thy nature, and thy name is love.
Side 8 - God's free bounty glorify; True belief and true repentance, — Every grace that brings you nigh, — Without money, Come to Jesus Christ and buy. 3 Let not conscience make you linger ; Nor of fitness fondly dream : All the fitness he requireth Is to feel your need of him : This he gives you, — 'Tis the Spirit's glimm'ring beam.
Side 336 - Son; Strong in the Lord of Hosts, And in his mighty power; Who in the strength of Jesus trusts Is more than conqueror.
Side 19 - Ho ! ye that pant for living streams, And pine away and die ; Here you may quench your raging thirst With springs that never dry. 5 Rivers of love and mercy here In a rich ocean join ; Salvation in abundance flows, Like floods of milk and wine.
Side 419 - Prince of peace ! Hail ! the Sun of righteousness ! Light and life to all he brings, Risen with healing in his wings. Mild he lays his glory by, Born that man no more may die, Born to raise the sons of earth, Born to give them second birth.
