TABLE 10.-Statement of the amount paid for pensions to the survivors of the war of 1812, and to the widows of those who served in that war, since 1871.

The act oebruary 14, 1871, provides a pension at the rate of $8 per month from the date of the act to the surviving soldiers and sailors who served sixty days during the war of 1812, and that the widow was entitled to the same pension the soldier or sailor would have been entitled to had he survived, to commence from the date of the act if he died before that time, otherwise from the date of his death, provided she was married to him prior to the treaty of peace and had not since remarried. Disloyalty during the late war was a bar to pension.

The act of March 9, 1878, reduced the term of service to fourteen days, or to one day if in an engage ment, removed the disloyalty bar, and repealed the limitation as to date of marriage to the soldier or sailor, the persons entitled under this act, so far as it is amendatory, to receive pension from the date of its approval.
