INVOCATION.

UNTO Thy shrine, my God, my King, This yotive offering I bring ;

This song where many voices blend !
To Thee, to Thee may it ascend!

Its every fault do Thou atone,
Dear Saviour, bear it to the throne -
And may the unequal notes we raise

Wake sweeter echoes to Thy praise !

And Thou, our COMFORTER and Guide!
Oh, ever in our souls abide
Our songs with purer love inspire,
Until we join the seraphig sboir.

A little child beneath a tree,
Abide with me: fast falls the eventide,
A child sat by a limpid stream,
Alone and silent there he sat,
A little black-eyed boy of five,
Along the shore of summer sea,
A holy calm was on his brow,
Along the mountain-track of life,
A little child six summers old,
A traveller through a dusty road,
A giddy lamb one afternoon,
A leisure moment idly to beguile,
A strange power hath the human heart,
A white sail gleaming on the food,
Ah, not for thee was woven,
All night the lonely suppliant prayed,
And is there care in Heaven ?
A swallow in the Spring,
A man of subtle reasoning, asked,
Ah! grieve not him whose silver hairs,
Are my flowers awake?
A dew-drop falling on the wild sea wave,
Beneath Moriah's rocky side,
Blessed be Thy name forever,
