The Editor being now left to his own judgment, has not hesitated a moment to fulfil the wishes of that eminent Scholar, as a memorial of his respect and gratitude for personal favours received from him.

It has been suggested, that the making known the mode of reference to the Books in the Library of the Royal Institution will be useful to Gentlemen possessed of large libraries; this is not by the usual mode of letters of the alphabet over the cases, but by simply numbering the shelves, as 1. 2. 3. 4. &c. which may be carried on to any extent, and save the repetition and confusion of three or four letters; one of which numbers being inserted in pencil against each book in the alphabetical catalogue, is easily erased and replaced by a new number, on a change of arrangement.
