PREFACE TO SIXTH EDITION.

THE first edition of Mr Drake's Demosthenes de Corona appeared in 1851. In 1860, after his death, a new edition was published to which the companion-speech of Aeschines in Ctesiphontem, with English notes, was prefixed, but the notes to Demosthenes underwent very slight alteration.

In the present edition other notes have been substituted where Mr Drake's seem no longer tenable, many corrections have been made, and a few notes have been added. The introduction of the edition of 1860 has been retained with a few corrections. It has further been found advisable to detach the speech of Aeschines, which will shortly appear in a separate form.

In his preface (1851) Mr Drake says, “The Editor has adhered without any variation to the text adopted in the Zurich edition of 1841, and taken from the Parisian MS. Where the readings of Bekker, Dissen, and others appear preferable, they are subjoined in the notes. Free use has been made of Dissen's notes, of the review of
