Something of this kind may help to explain the anomalous customs of inheritance, the wide prevalence of which under the name of Borough-English has long been a subject of speculation to all who have studied the curious details of the English Law of Real Property. The inquiry into customs and tenures is followed by a description of the Britons of the Interior as they first became known to the Romans, and by an account of the ancient Celtic Religions of which traces have remained in France as well as in the British Islands. The work ends with a concise history of the Roman Province of Britain, and an account of the English Conquest down to the period when Christianity was established.
