28th of Henry VIII., and was summoned to all the succeeding Parliaments called in his lifetime. He married Margaret Daughter and Heir of Sir Adrian Fortescue, by whom he had, with other issue, Thomas Wentworth, his Eldest Son. Thomas Lord Wentworth died in 1550, and was succeeded

by his Son:

THOMAS the Second Lord Wentworth, who was summoned to Parliament in the Reigns of Edward VI., Queen Mary, and Queen Elizabeth. Lord Wentworth was Governor of Calais. He married Anne Daughter of Sir John Wentworth of Gosfield, by whom he had issue two sons:

1. THOMAS WENTWORTH, who married, but died without issue in the lifetime of his Father.

2. HENRY, his Successor.

Thomas the Second Lord Wentworth died in 1590, and was succeeded by his Eldest surviving Son:

HENRY the Third Lord Wentworth, who was summoned to Parliament in the 35th of Queen Elizabeth. He married Anne Daughter of Sir Owen Hopton, Governor of the Tower, by whom he had, with other issue, Thomas Wentworth, his Eldest Son. Henry Lord Wentworth died in 1594, and was succeeded by his Son:

THOMAS the Fourth Lord Wentworth, who was summoned to Parliament in the 18th of James the First. On the 5th of February in the first year of the Reign of King Charles the First Lord Wentworth was created Earl of Cleveland to hold to him and the Heirs Male of his body, and he took his Seat in Parliament as Earl of Cleveland on the 18th of that month. married first Anne Daughter of Sir John Crofts, by whom he had issue:

1. THOMAS WENTWORTH, who was summoned to Parliament in November 1640, and placed in his Father's Barony of Wentworth. He married Philadelphia Daughter of Sir Ferdinando Cary, and died in 1664, in his Father's life time, leaving an only Daughter and Heir:

HENRIETTA MARIA WENTWORTH, who succeeded to the Peerage of Wentworth, and was Heir to her Father and to her Grandfather.

2. WILLIAM WENTWORTH, who died young and unmarried.

3. CHARLES WENTWORTH, who died in childhood.

4. ANNE, who died in infancy.

5. MARY, who died young and unmarried.

6. ANNE, who was in 1686 the only surviving child of Thomas Earl of Cleveland, and who in that year succeeded her Niece as Lady Wentworth.

THOMAS Earl of Cleveland died in 1667. On his decease the Dignity of Earl of Cleveland became extinct. The Peerage of Wentworth had previously devolved upon his Grand-daughter, as the Heir of her Father, who had been summoned to Parliament as Lord Wentworth.

HENRIETTA MARIA WENTWORTH, who succeeded her Father as Lady Wentworth, attended as a Peeress at the Coronation of King James the Second. She died unmarried in 1686, and was succeeded by her Aunt:

ANNE LADY WENTWORTH, then the only surviving child of Thomas Earl of Cleveland. She married John Lovelace the Second Lord Lovelace of Hurley, and by him, who died in 1670, she had issue:

1. JOHN LOVELACE the Third Lord Lovelace of Hurley, who married Martha Daughter of Sir Edmund Pye Baronet, and had issue:

1. JOHN LOVELACE, who died in childhood in the lifetime of his Father.

2. ANNE LOVELACE, who died unmarried in the lifetime of her Grandmother.

3. MARTHA LOVELACE, who succeeded her Grandmother as Lady Wentworth.

4. CATHERINE LOVELACE, who died unmarried in the life

time of her Grandmother.

John Lord Lovelace died in 1693, and on his death the Dignity of
Lord Lovelace of Hurley became extinct.

2. ANNE LOVELACE, who died unmarried.

3. MARGARET LOVELACE, the Ancestor of the Petitioner.

4. DOROTHY LOVELACE, who married Henry Drax, but died without issue.

Anne Lady Wentworth and Dowager Lady Lovelace died in 1697, and was succeeded by her Grand-daughter:

MARTHA Lady Wentworth, who was declared entitled to the Peerage of Wentworth by a Resolution of the House of Lords made on the 2nd of April 1702, which Resolution was duly reported to and confirmed by the Queen. Lady Wentworth married Sir Henry Johnson K.B., but had no issue. She died in 1745, and on her death the issue of John the Third Lord Lovelace became extinct, and Lord Lovelace's two Sisters Anne and Dorothy having previously died without issue, the Peerage of Wentworth devolved upon the Heir of Margaret his other Sister.

MARGARET LOVELACE the Second Daughter, and only Daughter who left issue, of John the Second Lord Lovelace and Anne Lady Wentworth married Sir William Noel of Kirkby Mallory in the County of Leicester Baronet, and by him, who died in 1681, she had issue:

1. THOMAS NOEL, who succeeded his Father.

2. JOHN NOEL, who succeeded his Brother.

DAME MARGARET NOEL died in her Husband's lifetime, and was succeeded by her Elder Son :

THOMAS NOEL, who on the death of his Father in 1681 became Sir Thomas Noel Baronet. He married Anne Daughter of Sir William Whitlock, but had no issue. He died in 1688, and was succeeded by his Brother :

SIR JOHN NOEL Baronet, who married Mary Daughter and Coheir of Sir John Clobery of Winchester, by whom he had, with other issue, Clobery Noel his Eldest Son. Sir John Noel died in 1697, and was succeeded by his Son :

SIR CLOBERY NOEL Baronet. Sir Clobery married Elizabeth Daughter of Thomas Rowney Esquire, and had by her, with other issue, Edward Noel, his Eldest Son. Sir Clobery Noel died in 1733, and was succeeded by his said Son:

SIR EDWARD NOEL Baronet. On the death of Martha Lady Wentworth Sir Edward succeeded to the Peerage of Wentworth and took his Seat in Parliament as Lord Wentworth on the 27th of November 1745. He was created Viscount Wentworth on the 5th of May 1762. He married Judith Daughter and Heir of William Lamb of Farndish in the County of Bedford Esquire, by whom he had issue :

1. THOMAS NOEL, his Successor.

2. JUDITH NOEL, who married Sir Ralph Milbanke Baronet, who in 1815 assumed the Surname and Arms of Noel, and by him, who

died in 1825, had an only child :

1. ANNE ISABELLA, who eventually succeeded to the Peerage of Wentworth.

Dame Judith Noel died on the 22nd of January 1822.

3. ELIZABETH NOEL, who married James Bland Burgess Esquire, subsequently created a Baronet of the United Kingdom, but died without issue in 1779.

4. SOPHIA SUSANNA, who married on the 18th of August 1777 the Honourable Nathaniel Curzon, who subsequently succeeded his Father as the Second Lord Scarsdale, and by him had issue :

1. NATHANIEL CURZON, who succeeded his Father as the Third Lord Scarsdale on the 27th of January 1837, and died unmarried on the 12th of November 1856.

2. SOPHIA CAROLINE CURZON, who married the Honourable Robert Sewallis Shirley, commonly called Viscount Tamworth, the Eldest Son of Robert Earl Ferrers, but died without issue on the 3rd of January 1849.

The Honourable Sophia Susanna Curzon died on the 28th of June

1782.

EDWARD Viscount and Lord Wentworth died on the 31st of October 1774, and was succeeded by his Only Son :

THOMAS NOEL Viscount and Lord Wentworth, who took his Seat in Parliament on the 29th of November 1744. He married Mary Daughter of Robert Earl of Northington, but had no issue. He died on the 17th of April 1815, and on his decease the Dignity of Viscount Wentworth became extinct, and that of Lord Wentworth fell into Abeyance between his Only Surviving Sister Dame Judith Noel, previously Dame Judith Milbanke, and his Nephew the Honourable Nathaniel Curzon, afterwards the Third Lord Scarsdale.

Dame Judith Noel died on the 22nd of January 1822, leaving her Daughter Anne Isabella Noel her Sole Heir, and on the death of Nathaniel the Third Lord Scarsdale without issue in November 1856, the Abeyance of the Peerage of Wentworth determined and the Dignity vested in Anne Isabella Noel, then Anne Isabella Dowager Lady Byron.

ANNE ISABELLA Lady Wentworth married on the 2nd of January 1815 George Gordon the Sixth Lord Byron, and by him, who died on the 19th of April 1824, had issue an only child :

1. AUGUSTA ADA BYRON, who was born on the 10th of December 1815. She married on the 8th of July 1835 William the Eighth Lord King, now Earl of Lovelace, and by him had issue:

1. The Honourable BYRON NOEL KING, commonly called Viscount Ockham, who succeeded his Grandmother.

2. Lady ANNE ISABELLA NOEL KING NOEL.

3. RALPH GORDON NOEL KING, who assumed the Surname
and Arms of Milbanke on the 6th November 1860.
THE PETITIONER.

Augusta Ada, then Countess of Lovelace died on the 29th of
November 1852.

Anna Isabella Lady Wentworth died on the 16th of May 1860, and was succeeded by her Grandson :

BYRON NOEL KING Lord Wentworth, commonly called Viscount Ockham, who was born on the 12th May 1836. Byron Lord Wentworth died unmarried on the 1st of September 1862, and was succeeded by his Brother:-

RALPH GORDON NOEL MILBANKE, commonly called Viscount Ockham, the Petitioner, who claims the Honour and Dignity of Lord Wentworth as the Sole Heir of the body of Sir Thomas Wentworth, who was summoned to and sat in Parliament as Lord Wentworth in the Reign of King Henry the Eighth, and the Petitioner trusts that upon proving the facts stated in this Case, the House of Lords will report to Her Majesty that he has fully established his right to that Honour and Dignity.

APPENDIX.

THE Petitioner having presented his Petition to Her Majesty, humbly praying that Her Majesty would be graciously pleased to confirm the Peerage of Wentworth to him and the Heirs of his body with all its Rights, Immunities and Privileges, by such recognition of the right and title of the Petitioner as to Her Majesty might seem fit, Her Majesty was pleased to refer the said Petition to the consideration of Her Attorney-General, who on the 13th of May 1863 made his Report thereon, and having therein stated the facts of the case and the evidence laid before him, concluded in the following manner :

Having fully considered the nature of the Evidence submitted to me on "behalf of the Claimant, I humbly beg to Report to your Majesty that in my Opinion the Evidence submitted to me is sufficient to justify referring the Petition of the Claimant, and the Statement in support thereof, to the "consideration of the House of Lords, if your Majesty shall be graciously pleased so to do."
