1641 On Saturday the 23d. of October (a day dedicated to St. Ignatius) broke out the dreadful rebellion and general defection of the Irith.

1649 King Charles I. brought before the pretended High Court of Juftice, the 20th of January, fentenced to death by Bradshaw, the 27th, and beheaded at Whitehall the 30th day of January, aged 48 years; he was buried in St. George's Chappel, Windfor.

Kingly Government abolished by Parliament, March 17th.

Oliver Cromwell, Lord Lieutenant and Commander in Chief under the Parliament, arrives in Dublin with 9000 foot, and 4000 horfe, with a fleet to attend him, where having fettled all affairs, he marched with 10,000 men to befiege Drogheda, which he took by ftorm, after being twice repulfed, September the 9th. He took Dundalk, September 16th, and Wexford, October 4th.

The Garrifon in the County of Cork revolt to Cromwell.

1650 The Sect called Quakers, first appeared. The battle of Macromp fought, wherein. the Irish were routed.

At Kilkenny was held the firft High Court of Juftice, for trial of fuch as were accused of barbarous murders in the rebellion,

Another was held at Dublin, where Sir Phelim O'Neil was condemned and executed. Lord Mayo condemned and fhot.

A Coffee-house firft opened in London.

A Sea-fight between the English and Dutch on the coaft of Holland, when the Dutch loft 30 men of war, and their Admiral Van Trump was killed, July 29th.

Rump Parliament turned out by the army, April 20th.

ber the 16th. 1654 Peace made between the two Republics, at the fupplication of Holland, who in the two years war, loft 700 merchant fhips, besides many of their navy: refpect to the English flag ftipulated by an article in the treaty.

The fine Broad-cloth of England fent to Holland to be dyed.

1655 Arch-bishop Ufher died the 31ft of March. Jamaica taken by the English from the Spa

The Jews admitted into England after an expulfion of 365 years.

1656 The river of Thames ebbed and flowed twice in 3 hours, October the 3d.
