EX-LIBRIS.

N.B. Every book lover must wish in some way to mark his books, and no surer or more beautiful way has been devised than the use of a book-plate. An Ex-Libris design, however, is in many cases beyond the means of the owner of books, and its place has to be taken by writing, often on paper quite unsuited for an ink inscription. To overcome this difficulty a series of designs has been prepared from which a supply of plates can be obtained at a trifling cost. An Illustrated List will be sent post free on application to the Publisher.

APPRECIATIONS.

DUBLIN PUBLISHING.

Messrs. Maunsel have done the one thing which those acquainted with social conditions in the Irish capital would have said could not be done. They are Irish publishers who count with the greater world of London, and they have given a chance to the Irish or the Anglo-Irish literature. It is to be placed to the credit of this young Irish firm of publishers that it had published nothing unworthy, nothing without its real value and significance, while it has achieved some remarkable triumphs.-The Bookman.

Maunsel & Co. is a firm that is coming to the front as the most enterprising publishing house in Dublin. The firm of Maunsel has indeed brought a new spirit into Dublin publishing . I have received a succession of pretty books from them, and so far as I have seen, as they are the first firm of Dublin Publishers to issue pretty books for many years, they are entitled to congratulation.-C. K. S. in The Sphere.

The Irish literary movement, measured by the successes in book production, is becoming quite a formidable affair. Unfortunately, we do not fully appreciate its extent, because the majority of the volumes, running to many hundred yearly, from the pens of Irishmen, are introduced with a London imprint on the title page. At the present moment there is really only one firm, that of Maunsel & Co., who set themselves out to keep the publishing tradition alive.-Glasgow Evening News.

So far the productive interest in poetry has not extended to Scotland, perhaps because Scottish Publishers at the present day are not very hospitable to the bards. None of them show the slightest desire to give the shelter of their groves to a nest of singing birds as Maunsel & Co.. of Dublin, are doing. It is astonishing how many young, eager, and brilliant Irish poets have been introduced lately to the public through cheap volumes published by this Dublin firm.-Glasgow News.

BODKIN, M. MACDONNEL, K.C.

FAMOUS IRISH TRIALS. Cloth. Cr. 8vo. 3/6 net.

A picture of life as varied as ever Hogarth put on canvas. There is not a dull page in the book. It has only one fault; this, perhaps, is due to the present shortage of paper. It is certainly not due to the Author's lack of material. Perhaps he may give us a second volume of the same type later, when blamed for having made this one too short."-New Witness.

"Told as Mr. Bodkin can tell them, the stories involved are in turns thrilling, amusing, intriguing, moving, and stimulating." -Manchester Guardian.

"Judge Bodkin is a novelist and story-teller, and his gifts as a novelist and story-teller are in evidence throughout the volume." -Freeman's Journal.

M. H. de Régnier writes as follows:-" The astonishing accuracy with which you have rendered not only the sense of the poem, but its rhythm, its sonority, and its slightest intentions. I do not believe it could be better done than you have done it."

"His renderings show considerable taste and delicacy of expression."--The Scotsman.
