Explanation of Indian Terms, Titles, and Countries, which occur in the Second and Third Volumes of this Work, in addition to those specified at the Commencement of the First Volume.

BAJARY. Millet.
BANDY. A cart or gig.

BATTA. Field allowance to the army, in money.

CAMAVISDAR. A native revenue collector in Guzerat. CHINNA. A sort of grain. COULTHEE. A grain for horses. COWLNAMAH. An agreement in writing; a proclamation.

DESHMOOK. An officer in the Deccan, receiving ten per cent. upon the clear revenue of the district.

DOLL. A yellow pulse or pea.
DURRAH of Horse. Corps of.

FANAM. A coin, 45 to a pagoda, Madras currency—2d. to 24d. each.

a gold, 3 to a rupee. Silver and gold coins of the same denomination are generally of the value of 15 to 1.

GARCE. A measure containing 4800 pucca seers, each seer two pounds.

GHEE. A kind of butter made

of buffalo's milk. GHURRY. A gong or bell upon which the hour is struck; also a wall flanked by towers. GOMASTAH, of Brinjarries. Agent or commissioner.

KURCH, Durbar. Court charges.

MATROSS. A bombardier. MEER SUDDOOR. One of the great officers of Tippoo's government; his particular charge was the

forts. MUCCUDUM of Brinjarries. Conductor.

MUTULUK. Deputy.

NERRICK. Price current of the market.

PADDY. Rice in the husk. PATEL, or POTAIL. The hereditary head manager of a village, and the medium of communication between a village and a go

vernment.

RAHDARRY an order of route and supplies.

RUSSALLAH of Horse.

A division or corps of; less than a Durrah.

SHEKAR. A hunt.
SIRCAR. See Circar.
SIRDESHMOOK. See Deshmook.
SIRLUSHKUr. One of the prin-
cipal officers of state under the
Peshwah.

SIRSOUBAH. An officer under the
Soubah.

SUNGUM. Literally, the confluence of two rivers. As the British Residency at Poonah was situated at such a position, the Sungum means the Residency.
