EXPLANATORY STATEMENT.

Adjusted balance in the hands of the Treasurer on the
31st December, 1839 -
Deduct amount of sundry warrants directed to certain
banks for payment, not charged in the foregoing ac-
count, which warrants those banks have not returned
to the Treasurer, but for which they have received
conditional credits, vide statement No. 2, page 11

Add sums deposited to the credit of the Treasurer, as per statement No. 3, page 12, for which warrants have not been issued, and which consequently cannot be legally charged to his account

Actual balance to the credit of the Treasurer for the service of the Post Office Department in the different deposite banks on the 31st December, 1839, as per statement No. 1, page 10
