ECLIPSES AND TRANSIT IN THE YEAR 1845.
There will he four Eclipses this year, two of the Sin and two of the Moon, and a Transit of the planet
Mercury across the sun's disc. of these permit me to speak in the order of time.

I. There will lean Eclipse of the Sun on the 6th of May, in the morning. aliogether invisible throughout the greater portion of the United Stutes, but paitly visible in the porth-eastern parts. At Busion the sun will rise, 5.17 digits eclipsed on the northern limb, at 4h. 51m., and and the E lipse will end at 5h. 28.n At New. York the sun will rise, 2. 23 digits eclipseil, ut 4h, 54m, and the Eclipse will end at 5h. 6.m. The Eclipse wi!! we invisible at Biltimore, Washington and in the parts further south and west. It will be visible in Green. lonel, in the British Islands, in the greater purt of 1 urope and in part of Asia.

Il. There will be a Transit of the planet Mercury across the southern limb of the Sun on Thursdny the 8th of Muy, visible throughout Americn, beginning nt New York * 11h, 23. 243. in the morning, and ending at ih. 52. 48.n in the uliceroun. Beginning ut New Orleans at 10n. 19ın. 29s. in the inor ivy, and ending up 4h. 48:11. 465. I the ntternoon. The appareut. diameter of Mercury, on ihis ..ccasion, will be to that of the Sun as 1 is tij 164. Hence the render mity judge für doimself whether or not he will be able to detect the sister planet in her pissuge between him and the fountain of light, without the ussistance of a telescope.

111. There will be un Eclipse of the Muon at the time of her full on the 21st of May, in the morning, invisi. ble in America.

IV. Tere will be an Eclipee of the Sun at the time of New Moon on the 30th of October, in the evening
invisible in America. Visinle in Australia and New Zealand. This Eclipse will be centrul and annular on
the inerid'un in longitude 1720 42 enst from Greenwich, und latitude 75° 39' south.
V. There will be a Echipse if the Moon on Thursday, November 13th, in the evening, visible.
