Loading... Status and Sacredness: A General Theory of Status Relations and an Analysis of Indian Culture (edition 1994)by Murray Milner Jr.A difficult but rewarding book on indian caste. The author nicely combines methodological and theoretical considerations with practical examples from indian sociology. Particularly his thesis that rational choice theory is a useful tool only after structural analysis has clarified the social context seemed to be well put. For the non-specialist on indian society the discussion goes into a bit too much detail sometimes, but few books in sociology are educational on as many levels as this one so I do recommend it. |
